This is it folks. The final song in this project. How fitting that I call it "End Up Here", eh? I decided to end on an acoustic and vocal only track. No big production. Just pure essessence. It's a tune about fullfilled dreams and desires. About ending up where you always hoped you would. It's been a fun year and I thank you all for your attention and support. Adios and as you know, if I'm not strumming, I'm bumming

Sometimes things are just darn good. You say something and the person you're with says "Sounds Good!" - then you think and say "...Feels Good". Then you realize, hey it IS good. That, my friends, is the inspiration for week 51's song. It's about being set and feeling good. If you're not there, I hope you get there. If you're there, I hope you stay there!

Your self probably rules the roust, huh? Makes you doubt, makes you mad, makes you hate? This song is about that. Because folks, that's your 'self', not your "Self". For if you lived by Self direction, you'd love everyone and everything. But it's cool ya'll. After all, we're only human. And we do the best we can do. So don't sweat it. Deep huh? Deep.

Episode 49 - Project: 52 Songs - "Cross My Heart" (Song49)

Well folks you get another slightly "country" tinged diddy this week. This tune came about in to existence in about 24 hours. (a true goal of this song a week project) While strumming around for an interesting chord progression I stumbled on the melody and the phrase Cross My Heart popped into my head. Then I thought of the saying "cross my heart and hope to die" and I thought dam, I want to cross my heart and survive! So I started down that road and then it evolved into a song about life and love with a dose of spirituality (of course). All told in three short verses in three short minutes. I hope you enjoy...

Episode 48 - Project: 52 Songs - "Humility" (Song48)

This week is a song that I finished for the RPM Challenge in February. It's a piece I have been incubating on for years called "Humility". Through the years I've not been able to come up with an acceptable verse melody. But this month it hit me. Also the lyrics had been elusive. It must be all my spiritual studies of late. I've discoverd - or realized - that humility is a good thing actually. That when you have a troublesome situation it is helpful to admit to humility that you don't know the answer. Then let God or the Universe or fate (whichever is your personal preference) take care of it. Just surrender it. It's a good way to live. Have you every thought about it?

Are you self concsious about your hair? Lord knows I have been through the years. From bushy little boy, to long on the sides, to new wave 80's, to that "body wave" perm I'll always regret. Anyhow, I couldn't help but notice on all the young men how long hair is back. Mainly long hair on the sides of the head, over the ears. All shaggy like. Like when I was in school a few years ago. (ha ha). So what better to write a song about?! Pavement had their hit song Cut Your Hair (that was it wasn't it) back in the 90s. The Judybats had "All I Wanna do is F**& Your Hair". And now, DSazster has: LONG HAIR IS BACK! Enjoy it my friends, enjoy it.!

I've yet to write a hill billy shuffle like song. Until now! Inspiration struck and I realized that I'm a stud. AND I'm in love. Well, seriously folks, when you feel good and you're feeling good you should sing it. And so this little ditty evolved. I tried singing it regular voice like. But it just wasn't working. So after seeing an alt country band band last night, I tried a little twang in my voice, and eureka! There it was. This one's pretty much unlike any I've done yet in the 52 Song Project. Enjoy. Also on this show is the "final" Atomsplit song "Doin' Allright Without You."

Happy New Year! I hope you got some goodies for the holidays. Here's a fun little tune I ended up calling "So Near". The inspiration is from the feeling of being close to someone special. Simple lyrics that somehow say it all. Recorded in a stripped down manner and low, almost old INXS sounding vocals. Also an Atomsplit unreleased demo on this podcast of "Dreaming of You".

Well I didn't think I could come up with a decent holiday song this year. After the two excellent ones last year! :-)
But inspiration struck. Yes, I was on an outing with Team Husky and the phrase Hey Holiday swooped into my head. And I realized how much I was looking forward to it. Really for one particular reason more than others. So, read the lyrics, listen, and see if you can figure out what I mean. And I sincerely hope there's many of you out there who feel the same.

Oh, also btw, I got a new fancy mic I used on this. But it sounds a little crazy b/c I'm not quite used to it yet.
Episode 42 - Project: 52 Songs - "Walls No Celing" (Song42)

This song is the result of another conversation I had this week with an associate. She said "it's got walls but no ceiling". Eureka! The phrase was like lightning to my brain as excellent song material. (it often happens like this folks, where I hear a combination of words and my brain goes COOL WORDS - USE IN SONG). So I sat down to write it and it became a song about having safety and security, but also the ability to expand one's horizons. Kind of like parents who take care of you and also encourage you to follow your dreams, or a mate who you're totally in sync with but allows you to also follow your goals. Make sense? I think it could also be interpretted as God in away, too. The safety and support of God. The recording is heavy on vocals and harmonies for a change. Sounds pretty decent I think.
I must be exposing myself to too much media lately. Here's another "commentary" type tune about media "pulling the wool" over our eyes. The recording turned out pretty decent. Nice drum sequencing. And a ton of reverb. You love it, don't you?
Now how do I explain this one? A failed attempt at social commetary song that ended up being a novetly song? That's about it. There's good intention and kernel here but as usual, when I try TOOOO hard to make it sound good it ends up backfiring. So I had to trick it out and put it over the top. The theme is really an expression of all the stupid shit the average person sees on TV. Or in daily life for that matter. There are some good lyrics in it though.
Episode 38 - Project: 52 Songs - "She Cuts, I Bleed" (Song38)

A Sometimes when I sit down to write the lyrics to these little ditties I just get in a stream-of-consciousness mode where all these little thoughts that have been on my mind or in my crazy dreams just comes out as lyrics. That's the case with this one. Started out as a relationship song but then the verses took on a strange poetic life of their own. Speaking to physical ailments among other things. So, I suppose the underlying theme of this one is bad love, babies, bad love.

Episode 37 - Project: 52 Songs - "Old Rockers, New Records" (Song37)

I put the pretension aside this week for a thoughtful piece called "Old Rockers, New Records". Have you happened to notice how a number of "classic" old rockers are putting out new records these days. Like Bob Segar, Tom Petty, Robert Plant, etc. Thing is the radio won't play them. They play the old safe music these folks made 20-30 years ago. Just plain frustrating. Maybe there is a satellite station or something that plays them? I guess you are just supposed to buy or download the music and enjoy it on your own.

Anyhow, this simple song is noting all this. Also, a great 7 inch verison of "Millisent" on this show.

Episode 35 - Project: 52 Songs - "Trick of Time" (Song35)

This week you get a full production demo. The tune is called "Trick of Time" and it's got a nice big chorus lyric of "We all fall down" that speaks to being hopeful after being let down. The kernel of this tune goes back many many years musically to early work with my songwriting cousin Jeremey in Tampa Bay. The riff was always one of my favorites but the song never got finished or recorded. So, I thought I'd get it out, dust it off, and finish it up for fun. It's very Cure like with the driving drum beat. But the chorus not so much.

Two sensitive songs in a row! Like OMG, what is happeing to me? I got a lot of great feedback on last week's tune, "Thick2Thin". If you didn't hear it yet, go check it out here. Anyhow, this week's sad ballad is called "Next to This". Inspired by true abstract life. Without drama we would have no art right? Have you ever asked yourself, "What else is there?". That's a key line in the chorus in this one. Overall it sounds like an old singer songwriter balladeer somewhat. Enjoy my friends, enjoy
This week you get a sensitive little number I decided to call "Thick2Thin". The weird spelling be yet another homage to Prince. The song speaks to the dilution of a relationship through time. Typically early on you might call one "thick". But then as time takes it's toll. And reality takes it toll. And the Law of Rhythm takes it toll. Etc, etc, etc. You become "thin". You all know what I'm talking about. Think about how many "dead friends" you have out there. Such is the way I suppose. For the earth is slow, but the oxen....the oxen are patient. Hang in there kids. I assure you there will be light at the end of that tunnel. Also on this week's show is "Ms September" off Atomsplit's ONE TON SUIT classic digipack cd record. I mean it's September? What else would you expect.br>
It's Mr. Spock's theme song. Just kidding. Not sure why that phrase popped into my head when struming the chord progression that made this song come to live. There's no Star Trek references. It's actually more of a uh, spiritual song I think. Secretly about larger life being. I won't give it all away though. Production wise this one's not half bad. Drum machines and singing cleans. Layers and layers of chocolaty goodness. It's my hope that you enjoy it. And oh yeah, USE HEADPHONES to listen.

It's kind of Cure soundsing song. (I've been listening to those re-issues with the bounus demo CD. Hope you enjoy.

Sucky times are here again! That's right. Can anyone escape them? Well my friends I created a little ditty about being verbally attacked. You know, the kind where you there's really nothing you can say back? It's a little dancy techno weird piece. I think you'll like it. I think you'll relate to it. Also special on this week's episode is the unreleased elder Atomsplit studio track "Micronauts". A song about my favorite toys intermixed in some abstract relationship thing.br>
It was the Fourth of July holiday weekend and I was trying to come up with a sweet patriotic anthem that wasn't cheesy. Tough order though. It ended up being commentary based but with a positive spin. Us Americans are fortunate to be in this country. No matter what our differences or the state of things may be. This song is my take on it. Also the Atomsplit song "Americanized" is finally spun on the podcast. It' doesn't get better than this weeks episode!

Episode 27 - Project: 52 Songs - "If You Were Me?" (Song27)

I'm currently reading Tolstoy's "Confession". So far it's really depressing. Though I was told it ends hopefully. So this week's song is about depression more or less. When something happens that you consider bad or upsetting. You don't know what to do. You ask people for help..."If You Were Me What Would You Do?" . Also when you get input from others you may at first feel defensive and frustrated. But the ideas - if they are true and good - slowly gain acceptance. At least that's how it is for me. But I know everyone has different reactions to stress. But overall I'm sure everyone has asked If You Were Me? at one time or another in their life.

Episode 26 - Project: 52 Songs - "Stretch Your Love" (Song26)

This is the 26th "song" written and podcasted with commentary. A lot of pressure was on me to come up with something good for this landmark episode. But where could I look for inspiration? Then it hit me. My beloved Mr. Fantastic strech action figure. And all the bizzar situations I've photographed him in over the few months. (along with my creative Uncle Charlie's help!). So, I've been wanting to create a video using all these weird photos I've shot - one day at a time- but I realized I needed a song to do it. So I put together the "stretch" idea with Love. You fall in love and you wonder "will it last a lifetime". Well, at least I do. So that my dear friends is the inspiration for this song. It ended up being slightly dancy and programy. And funny I think.

Episode 24 - Project: 52 Songs - "Times Squared" (Song24)

Spent the long weekend in the Big Apple. NYC people. Wasn't allll that great but as it becomes a memory it becomes fond. Anyhow, I managed to carry my un-trusty iMac laptop into the heart of Times Square to do some audio recording of the experience. Then I also did some recording of the environment in Union Square and a club crowd. I mixed all the audio together and added a funky walking like drum beat. (I did a lot of walking!) Then I added a 5 different "stock" bass garageband tracks. Not just any bass track but "southern" bass. On account of me being from the South. The end result is not a song per se, but a "piece". A experimental environmental sound scape if you will. You hear the sirens, the crowds, etc. Enjoy it for what it is. Oh, did I mention there are no lyrics!

Episode 19 - Project: 52 Songs - "MyName" (Song19)

I couldn't keep cheery through all of the Spring now could I? Maybe it was the time change. Maybe it was the deadlines. It definitely was the insomnia. This week's "song" is a somewhat "experimental" piece with some introspective contradiction poem like lyrics. It's dark and interesting I think.
Oh my, it's Springtime. The birds, the bees, the pollen filled trees. Here's a nice and sweet romantic song. It's a chord progression part I've been working on for awhile. But I desparately needed inspiration to finish the lyrics. Plus "On Your Mind Tonight" from Atomsplit's One Ton Suit CD.
A slick little drum sequenced song with bass, and no guitar, plus vocals and effects galore. It's cool and hip and about not starting a War with that crazy person or country you became aquainted with. You know you know what I mean! Also the studio song of the week is "Consider Yourself Lucky" from Atomsplit.
Ah, another slow song. Another bittersweet one. Somewhat about the "growing pains" of love and relationships. I really like the Chorus on this one. It's a simple live sounding recording with gentle singing. My Goodness, am I becoming a folk singer? It's a tough one. Also "Set It Up" by The Inklings off of the Room on Venus CD.
Episode 15 - Project: 52 Songs - "she can't help" (Song15)

This is a slow song. A bittersweet song I think. (are you noticing a theme in my work yet?). It's called She Can't Help. A song who's lyrics are describing someone. Maybe someone like someone you know. A lonely heart. The verses are speaking of her. Then the chorus does the same by tries to pull an ounce of hope into the situation. And the bridge is the narrator's plea of involvement. I guess you could call it a ballad. But it's not a lovey dovey one. It's a tough one. Also "Starlight" by The Inklings off of the Room on Venus CD.
